About
Lie Blikk is a modern sheet metal company that embraces innovation, keeping pace with both the market and technological development. Beyond gutters, chimney caps, and fittings, they craft almost anything made from metal — façades, roofs, railings, staircases, and custom designs. As part of Lie Gruppen, a group of four companies specializing in construction and metal, Lie Blikk delivers quality at every stage and goes the extra mile to ensure customers receive solutions that are both beautiful and built to last.
Challenge
Lie Blikk had grown from around 60 to nearly 100 employees in a short period of time, but their systems didn’t keep up. Information was scattered across various trade-specific systems, SharePoint lists, Excel sheets, and Teams – there was no single source of truth. This made it difficult for departments to work according to the same methodology and created bottlenecks when employees had to chase information across different systems.
Solution
Lie Blikk chose Business Online because the platform met their needs for better collaboration, structure, and document control. They wanted a unified platform that could connect the entire business – from tenders and projects to HR and quality management. The solution also had to be mobile-friendly, intuitive to use, and flexible enough to adapt to the company’s existing workflows.
Result
Business Online has made daily operations simpler and more structured for Lie Blikk – with clear benefits for management, administration, and field staff alike. Management now has better insight and project overview, project managers work more efficiently with fewer interruptions, and field employees have quick access to the information they need. The result: smoother collaboration, better predictability, and higher quality in every delivery.
A Need for Better Collaboration and Shared Methods
When Lie Blikk started looking for a new management system, it was part of a natural step in their growth. The company wanted to strengthen cross-department collaboration and ensure all information was easily accessible and structured across processes.
“We worked one way during the estimation phase, another during design, and a third during project execution. It was difficult to collaborate because the information was so scattered,” says Eirik Kvilstad Heskja, Head of Digitalization and Finance at Lie Blikk.
They saw particular potential for improvement in the handover phases between estimation, engineering, and project management. As in many project-based organizations, challenges occasionally arose when information had to be passed from one role to another.
“We had a clear idea of working according to a set methodology, but it was hard to ensure that we actually did. There was some frustration and a bit of uncertainty around roles in the projects.”
One Platform for the Entire Business – From Projects to Quality and HR
Lie Blikk decided to bring the entire organization together in one system: Business Online. Since its implementation, the platform has become a key tool throughout their value chain – from tenders and project execution to HR and quality follow-up.
“We use Business Online for everything related to project execution – documentation and communication from the moment we receive an inquiry until the project is completed.”
For a company where many employees work entirely without a computer, mobile accessibility was crucial. Previously, it was challenging to reach field staff with important work information. With Business Online on mobile, installers and craftsmen in the field can now access drawings, quality checklists, and deviation reports directly on their phones – without having to call the office.
“We’re craftsmen and skilled at what we do, but we don’t want to be IT experts. We need a system that makes it easy for everyone to work the same way. It’s a huge benefit that everything is gathered in one place and easy to find.”
Quality Control Plans Ensure Consistency and High Standards
For Lie Blikk, quality control plans in Business Online have become a central part of project execution. A Quality Control Plan (QCP) provides a clear and structured overview of all the tasks that must be completed to deliver services in accordance with high standards. This reduces the risk of errors and ensures that all necessary steps in the project are carried out. Most importantly, the QCP ensures that everyone works consistently and according to best practice.
“We use the QCP actively to ensure that the steps we’ve said we will complete actually get done. Because we have a set quality control plan and a shared structure in all projects, we are much better able to make sure the right steps are actually carried out.”
The quality control plans are also actively revised, Heskja explains:
“When we make adjustments to how we work, this is reflected in new projects as well. No one has to remember every new change – it’s built into the system, and you automatically follow the new methodology.”
The quality control plans are used not only for project execution on construction sites but also for onboarding new employees.
“Because there is a defined methodology and structure, with checklists and steps to complete, it’s easier for new people to contribute when they’re new in their role.”
Quality control plans ensure that everyone shares ownership of the processes and help raise internal standards. They also simplify compliance with internal and customer requirements, thereby strengthening Lie Blikk’s competitiveness in the market.
Structure and control from quote to project execution
The project module in Business Online makes it easy to get an overview of progress, documentation, and responsibility in each individual project. Lie Blikk has also created dedicated department pages within the system, which has strengthened collaboration across different disciplines.
Even the tendering process is integrated into the project structure. Each project can have multiple offers, and Lie Blikk has established dedicated workspaces and routines for follow-up. All activity is logged through the additional Outlook Integrator feature and automatically linked to the project.
The complexity of Lie Blikk’s offer process becomes clear when Heskja explains how they work:
“On a single project, we often submit 10–15 different quotes across various disciplines. It can be anything from railings and façades to traditional sheet metal work. You need to know exactly which customer received which offer. With Business Online, we can document the dialogue and follow up much better than before.
A Foundation for Quality Management
In parallel with the search for a new management system, Lie Blikk had decided to pursue three ISO certifications simultaneously: 9001 (quality management), 14001 (environmental management), and 45001 (occupational health and safety). This strategic decision placed particularly high demands on their choice of system.
“We saw the opportunity to structure the system in line with the ISO standards. We thought that if we were going to implement a new management system, it should be one that aligns with the requirements set by the ISO certifications.”
Thus, Business Online became more than just an operational tool, but also a foundation for the company's quality management system. With quality control plans, procedures, and document control built into the platform, they could document and demonstrate compliance with ISO requirements in a completely new way.
“Having gone through ISO certification, it’s very valuable for us to know that we have a common methodology to work by. With the quality control plans, we can document and prove that as long as we follow the steps, we carry out the elements we’ve agreed upon.”
Collaboration, control, and quality across roles and disciplines
By bringing the entire organization together on one platform, Lie Blikk has achieved better collaboration, clearer role distribution, and increased control – both internally and in interactions with customers. The new way of working makes it easier to put quality into practice and ensures that projects are carried out as they should be, every time.
- For management, For management, this means better insight and control over how projects are actually executed. “Because now there is one system, not many. It’s easy to manage, easy to secure. If people use the system correctly, we also know the information is there. It feels safe and reliable.”
- For project managers, it means no longer acting as information hubs: “When they need assistance from others, everyone knows: Where do we find the information? Where are the drawings? Where is the contract? All of this is known to everyone.”
- For field workers, it’s about easy access to governing documents, vacation and absence records, and simple deviation reporting – all directly on their mobile phones. They avoid duplicate work and unnecessary administration. According to Heskja: “They enter information once – not multiple times.”
The quality control plans, in particular, have been a game changer. When everyone involved knows what needs to be done, when, and how, the margin for error is reduced. At the same time, it creates a shared understanding of what is expected in each project.
“The QCP is the biggest advantage we’ve gained – and the fact that it’s so easy to make adjustments there. This way, we’re sure that all projects follow the same checklist and that everything is carried out as agreed.”
More Efficient Collaboration and Workflow
When Lie Blikk started implementing Business Online, they had grown from around 60 to almost 100 employees in a relatively short time. The systems that had worked for a smaller organization no longer scaled.
Information was scattered across various specialized systems, SharePoint lists, and Excel sheets. A typical procurement process started in a SharePoint list, the calculation took place in the ERP system, the follow-up was done in Excel, and communication happened through email. When a procurement turned into a project, all the information had to be transferred manually. Project managers spent hours answering questions about where documents were stored. Departments worked in silos with their own separate tools.
Now, every customer inquiry starts as a lead in Business Online, where all offers and history are stored. When it becomes a project, all related communication and documents follow automatically. Project managers can focus on leadership instead of administration, and departments work together in the same system, following the same structure.
“It has made us collaborate in a completely different way. Previously, we had very clear silos and divisions. There is much more collaboration throughout the entire project now.”
Especially the collaboration between estimation, design, and project management has improved significantly. The handovers between roles, which used to be one of the biggest challenges, now run seamlessly because the information follows the project.
“A lot of time used to be spent searching for information and getting frustrated because you couldn’t find it where you thought it was. So the time savings from having that shared space where everything is gathered – I would say that’s significant.”
A platform for continued growth
For Lie Blikk, delivering quality means doing things right every time. With Business Online, they have a system that supports them in exactly that.
“Business Online helps us put quality into practice. With this solution, we have gained increased collaboration, insight, and control in all phases of project execution – from inquiry and offer to completed project.”
With a scalable solution in place, Lie Blikk is ready for continued growth, with systems that grow with them, not hold them back.
